Introduction to Acupressure

Hi Friends, my name is Balwant Rawat, and I hold an engineering degree in Computer Science & Engineering from Institute Of Technology, BHU. At present I am working as Senior Manager with in the Intellectual Property (IP) Division.

I got introduced to Accupressure in year 1998. At that time I had acute Sinusitis problem, which was troubling me for some months. Conventional Allopathic medicines used to provide only short term relief, but did not completely cured my problem. On the top of that, some doctors even suggested for a minor operation in the affected area. I tried accupressure just to avoid the surgery, and within a week I noticed tremendous improvement. Since then, this problem has never returned back. After realizing its benefits, I got more interested and increased my knowledge by reading books and talking to experts. Since then I have been involved in spreading accupressure awareness, and practising accupressure on a part-time basis.

Accupressure is principally similar to Accupuncture (curing by pressing needles at accupressure points). In Japan it is also known by the name SHIATSU. Reflexology uses accupressure points located in hand & feet.

Accupressure is the therapy, through which you can treat almost all the existing diseases in a natural way.It is quick & provides fast & permanent relief. Furthermore Accupressure has no side - effects as the conventional medicines have.

The biggest advantage is that Accupressure can be applied anywhere ,anytime easily by applying pressure , through the thumb or simple instruments, to accupressure points present in various parts of body. This therepy can be learned easily & you can become your own doctor by using Accupressure charts (given below).Specific accupressure points have particular organs associated with them. For eg. If somebody have a problem of constipation ,there will be a particular type of pain on pressing of associated accupressure points.Frequently press these points regularly and the pain goes away alongwith the disease.(There is no pain at these points in healthy individuals).

The origins of acupressure are as ancient as the instinctive impulse to hold your forehead or temples when you have a headache. Though Chinese are said to develop this therapy , But its actual origin was in India around 6,000 years ago. Old AYURVEDA Books have mentioned "a kind of deep massage in certain specific areas of body , to treat diseases".

From India ,it went to china by means of ancient chinese travellers, where it got popular & developed more & more. Whereas in India , Acupressure didn't get official recognition due to foreign rule, thus resulting in its decline.

Acupressure is an ancient healing art that uses the fingers to press key points on the surface of the skin to stimulate the body's natural self-curative abilities. Many theories have been put forward describing how Accupressure works:-

  1. There is a very complex network of nerves & blood vessels covering every inch of our body. These nerves after travelling various body organs such as liver , heart, lungs etc. end up at certain points called Accupressure points. It is by pressing these points , the concerned organ gets activated (by bio-electricity flowing through nerves).Hence blood circulation , waste removal etc. activities (body's self healing processes),gets activated in the diseased organ. & the disease goes.
